    A local court builder visits the site to assess ground conditions, soil type, natural drainage, and available space. This step cannot be skipped, soil and slope determine the entire sub-base specification.

    Review Written Estimate

    You receive an itemised written estimate covering base preparation, surfacing, fencing, lighting, and line marking as separate line items. Review it, ask questions, and approve before any work is scheduled.

    Sign-Off Walkthrough

    Once construction is complete, a final walkthrough is carried out with you on site. The court is checked against the agreed scope, dimensions, surface slope, line marking, and fencing, before the job is closed.

Do you build the courts yourselves?

No. Roanoke Sports Courts is an enquiry service. We arrange a local court builder to carry out the on-site evaluation and construction. The builder handles all ground work, surfacing, and installation. We manage the process from first contact through to the final sign-off walkthrough.

Why does every project need an on-site visit before a price is given?

Ground conditions, soil type, natural slope, and drainage all affect the sub-base specification and the total cost. Clay soils common across the Roanoke Valley require deeper compaction than sandy or loam sites. A phone estimate cannot capture those variables, so a site visit is the only way to produce an accurate, itemised scope.

What happens if I delay getting a worn court resurfaced?

Surface cracks allow water to penetrate the base layer. In Southwest Virginia’s freeze-thaw climate, that water expands and contracts each winter, widening cracks and lifting the surface. A court that needs a recoat today can require full base reconstruction within two or three seasons if left untreated, a significantly higher cost.

Do I need a permit to build a backyard sports court?

Permit requirements vary by county and municipality across the Roanoke and New River valleys. Some jurisdictions require a grading or impervious-surface permit; others do not. The local builder arranged for your project will identify the applicable permit requirements during the site evaluation and include any filing steps in the written scope.
